Mr. K Symposium

1. Japanese-German Meeting on Cardiology Simulation in Medical Education

November 11 and 12, 2011 in Leipzig, Germany / Free of charge!

A Great Welcome to Prof. Takashina!

With great pleasure and in the name of our Medical Faculty I would like to welcome all colleagues and med students to our first Mr. K Symposium held at the LernKlinik Leipzig, our institution of practical clinical training in medicine. It is a great honour to welcome Prof. Tsunekazu Takashina, the "father" of the Cardiology Simulator "Mr. K", to this meeting.

Prof. Takashina is chairman of the Japanese Educational Clinical Cardiology Society (JECCS), visiting professor of Kinki University, Osaka, Japan, visiting professor of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, USA, and director of the Takashina Clinic in Osaka. Early in his career he lost his heart to student teaching and has been teaching bedside physical examination, putting great emphasis on the teaching of imminent basic clinical skills. This was the beginning of the birth of Mr. K: using digital and computer-assisted technology he developed an advanced and exceptional cardiology simulator which he first reported on in "Clinical Cardiology" in 1990. As an internationally known cardiologist, he has been giving numerous lectures and training courses for physicians and medical students all over the world.

I first met Prof. Takashina in July 2010 at the JECCS Center, Osaka, where we not only had a cup of Japanese tea together, but where I received a private lesson in cardiology with Mr. K. This wonderful experience led to the mutual wish to share Prof. Takashina's profound knowledge and experience in cardiology simulation with colleagues and medical students here in Germany.
I wish us all a very fruitful and inspiring bilingual symposium with lectures, workshops and mutual discussions!
